WHAT IS CASA VERDE DESIGNS?
Casa Verde Designs was created to encourage and facilitate green building, remodeling,
and redecorating efforts in the local area by providing both affordable design services
and high-quality sustainable materials. Our flexible business model allows us to work with
homeowners directly, with contractors, and even DIYers. We pride ourselves on being able
to offer customers individual, personalized service.
Casa Verde Designs can provide assistance on both residential and small commercial projects.
We want to meet the needs of both local building professionals and property owners who seek
to incorporate elements of sustainable and universal design into their projects.
At Casa Verde Designs, we try to help our clients through their entire remodeling or
renovation project: from assessing their needs, to space planning, to providing design
drawings, to selection of materials, fixtures, and finishes, to furnishing and
accessorizing a completed space.
We have worked very hard to assemble a large collection of interior design finish materials
that meet our exacting quality and environmental standards. We hope that our clients will
appreciate the environmental and social justice implications of their design and home
improvement purchases.
WHO ARE WE?
Casa Verde Designs was founded in early 2007 by long-time Davis resident Nancy Morrow.
Currently the business is a collaboration between Nancy and two kitchen and bath designers
certified by the National Kitchen & Bath Association: Linda Bellmer, Alchemy Interiors,
and Judy Mustard, JWM Designs.
Nancy arrived in Davis in the 1980s as student, and since then (apart from a brief stint
as an MSU faculty member at MSU in East Lansing, Michigan), she has worked and lived in
Davis. Her daughter Caitlin Anderson, who has worked with the business since the beginning,
is a 2011 Davis High School graduate, and now attends Emory University in Atlanta.
After a long teaching career in the University Writing Program at U.C. Davis, where she
served as Director of Composition, Nancy decided to change careers, earning a degree in
Interior Design from American River College in Sacramento. As she became more interested
in sustainable and universal design, she joined the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC)
and Build It Green (BIG) and continued her education through memberships in the American
Society of Interior Designers (ASID), the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA),
the San Francisco Furniture Mart, and the San Francisco Design Center. She has completed
Build It Green’s Certified Green Building Professional course (advanced level) and has
received her Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design professional accreditation
from the U.S. Green Building Council (LEED AP). As a designer (and a homeowner who has
built or remodeled several homes herself), Nancy knows how difficult it is to select and
obtain the best advice and materials.
The design philosophy at Casa Verde is to carefully assess the clients’ needs and concerns
and help them to choose the best design solutions and materials to make their home or work
space more functional, healthy, comfortable, and beautiful.
ABOUT OUR NEW SHOWROOM
From 2007 until July 2011, Casa Verde Designs was located in a small office space tucked
away on F Street. Despite our location, auite a few people managed to find us. We did
kitchen and bath remodels and helped lots of people find high quality sustainable materials.
In 2011, we got the opportunity to move to our current location, formerly a warehouse for
Davis Ace Hardware. With the help of our helpful landlords, we were able to remodel the
space to accommodate both new showroom space (about 1600 SF), a new ADA restroom, and office,
design, and library space in a loft obove the showroom. Throughout the space we have used
our own products, so that we could demonstrate some of the options available and provide
more informed information about each product. We used Eco-Procote concrete stain on our
floor, and installed a Marmoleum sheet floor in our future kitchen. We have a cork floor
in our loft, and luxury vinyl tile in our restroom, which also boasts a dual flush toilet,
Caesarstone countertops, and Fireclay Debris tile. We have a gas fireplace in the center
of the showroom, not only to provide much-needed winter heat, but to demonstrate one of
our favorite projects: fireplace redesign. We are currently working to complete our kitchen
display room, where we will be able to demonstrate the many options for innovative
cabinetry and countertops.
